En el club hemos trasladado el juego de tablero de este
nombre a la mesa de juego con figuras de plomo y como somos unos entusiastas
del mismo y tenemos todas las expansiones, estamos preparando una campaña
utilizando todos los mapas y unidades con el fin de recrear un hipotético
ataque del Pacto de Varsovia sobre la Nato cuyo objetivo sería tomar París en
un periodo máximo de 3 semanas y evitar de este modo la más que hipotética
Guerra Nuclear derivada de una campaña más larga. Para recrearla también nos
hemos basado en la famosísima novela de Tom Clancy Marea Roja y tendrá como nombre París – Berlín. A ver qué tal nos

In our club we have adapted the boardgame World at War for playing with tabletop miniatures. As we are big fans and have all the supplements, we're planning a campaign using the maps and units to recreate a hypothetical attack by the Warsaw Pact on NATO. Pero antes que nada hay que probar el reglamento y, sobre
todo, las variantes que hemos ideado para trasladar de un modo coherente las
reglas con fichas a reglas con miniaturas, cuyo mayor problema en nuestra
escala es que los vehículos más grandes, como los carros de combate, no caben
más que uno por hexágono, cuando en el juego pueden apilarse hasta dos unidades
terrestres y un cuartel general, lo que afecta a estos últimos, o bien como
calcular el apoyo externo (más armas antitanques personales NATO, apoyo aéreo,
artillero…) cosas que vienen dadas en los escenarios publicados pero que
tenemos que articular nosotros de una manera fidedigna para el transcurso de la
campaña. Aunque en resumen, podemos decir que son pequeños toques y que
prácticamente se mantiene el 90% de las reglas originales.

fotos, recreamos un ataque de la punta de lanza soviética, el 1º de tanques
(que tenía que despejar el paso al 33º motorizado de rifles) sobre una
población fronteriza con un importante nudo de comunicaciones, defendida por
una escuadra norteamericana “Team Charlie” de pequeña envergadura pero con una
potente dotación de armas antitanques y un ITV atrincherados a la entrada del
pueblo.

The defence was 'Team Charlie', a small, heavily armed US unit, equipped with anti-tank weapons however, and an ITV entrenched at the entrance to the town.

jugaron 6. A pesar de la llegada de refuerzos blindados yanquis, un Abrams, dos
Bradleys y un helicóptero cobra, la potencia de la artillería de apoyo
soviética y la llegada de dos helicópteros Hind, fue demasiado abrumadora para
los norteamericanos, que además sufrieron deficiencias en su suministro de
munición que les dejó varios turnos con sus armas antitanque sin disparar, por
lo que cuando el Abrams, sobre todo, fue destruido, los pocos supervivientes
que quedaban se retiraron ya que estaba claro que no había nada que hacer.

de carros dañados o destruidos gracias a la potencia de fuego yanqui,
aprendiendo una valiosa lección para el futuro, y es que la infantería
escondida con armas anticarro va a ser todo un maldito quebradero de cabeza.
Despite all this, it cost the reds half a tank battalion damaged or destroyed, thanks to the American firepower. A valuable lesson for the future; concealed infantry armed with AT weapons can be a one hell of a headache.

Epílogo
World at War es un
juego con unas reglas muy asequibles que se asimilan fácilmente en una sesión
de juego pero que a la vez son muy completas, lo que satisface tanto al jugador
más bisoño como al veterano siempre que se pretenda recrear batallas a nivel
compañía OTAN –batallón Pacto de Varsovia como máximo sin un interés excesivo
en el control de sistema de armas, electrónica, tecnología, etc. No es éste un Harpoon, por ejemplo, pasado del mar a
la tierra, y donde casi debes ser un experto en tecnología militar para jugar,
WaW es un sistema sencillo pero fiable donde puedes encontrar toda la panoplia
existente en ambos bandos y un montón de escenarios para disfrutar por lo que
desde nuestro club lo recomendamos sin duda alguna y más ante la escasez en el
mercado de reglamentos para representar un hipotético combate de estas fuerzas
en los años 80 del pasado siglo.

World at War is a game with very manageable rules, easily learnt in one gaming session. At the same time they are very complete, satisfying both novice and veteran players, as long as the aim is to recreate battles at the company level (NATO) and battalion (Warsaw Pact) at most. It doesn't enter into exhaustive detail concerning electronic systems, weapons systems and other technology. It's nothing like Harpoon, adapted from sea to land for example, there is no need to be any kind of expert in the field of military hardware to play. WaW is a simple system but reliable, embracing the arsenal of both sides in an exhaustive series of scenarios which our club wholeheartedly recommends. Considering the lack of rules sets to recreate hypothetical battles in the 1980s available on the market, this is an attractive alternative.
